Main ek LADKA hun ... Hindi poetry on gender stereotyping by Sonal Singh

'Main ek LADKA hun' is one of our best creations till date which expresses out a topic that is not much thought about. It focuses basically upon gender stereotyping and how we have categorised works, choices, colours, jobs and responsibilities on the basis of gender. And much more than that, it focuses on the struggles that a male has to face in the society for having a broad mindset and his decision to gender equality.
A male, he might be a husband, a brother, or a father, has often faced humiliation and us ridiculed if he goes against this stereotyping, and chooses to work differently. We all are no strangers to the capabilities of both the genders and have seen people raising their voices for women empowerment. But, it's still a tragedy that people hardly think that the males in the society would be having any troubles in thinking out of the box. We hardly have any idea about the problems, the men in our surroundings face. Males don't cry, they are the ones who should protect and not those who should ask for the help of their female family members, they should not be too submissive and should not participate in the household chores that are so called ''girly works.'
The poem below is the inner voice of a boy, who says that he finds it no big deal to have felt that his being a male is no such speciality that he should boast upon. He tries to explain his point of view that he doesn't categories work on the basis of gender and thinks it is his responsibility too, to help in any work that his wife or sister would do at home. He says that he has the same respect and love at home as his sister has.
He shares with us the plight when people make fun of him and his views, and consider them as an act of shame. He therefore raises a question on this so called system of the society, as to, who makes these rules and regulations upon which the lives of the people would run.
At the end he makes it clear that there is no false promises he is making, but doing what he feels is right. A basic principle of give respect and get respect us what he believes in. And that is what he expects from the society.

Ek aam sa hi toh ladka hun,

Koi aasmaan nahi hun.

Jitna tumne sar chadhaya hai,

Utna bhi mahaan nahi hun

Dosto ko gaali bhi deta hun,

Papa ki daant bhi sehta hun,

Bike lekar zaroorat padne pe,

Taiyyar bhi rehta hun.

Kuchh badi khoobi nahi mujhme,

Par jeena main bhi jaanta hun,

Haan meri behen baraabar hai mere,

Sachche dil se ye maanta hun.

Button taankni ho ya kapde sukhaane ho,

Sabji kaatni ko ya fulke banaane ho,

Kaam ko koi bhi gender nahi deta hun,

Didi jitni dulaari hai meri, main bhi utna hi pyara beta hun.

Kuchh haste hain mujhpar,

Kuchh mazaak bhi udaate hain.

Kuchh kehte bas kar,

Mard sirf paise kamaate hain.

Ab sare gaao mein badnaam karwayega kya?

Khud tu joru ka ghulaam kehlayega kya?

Kuchh soch unki badi ajeeb si jaan padti thi,

Unke ghar pe bas aurat hi kaam karti thi.

Ye nazariya mujhe kuchh samjh nahi aata,

Aakhir ye niyam kaayde kon hai bnaata.

Kyu koi mujhe mere kaam batayega?

Kyu koi aurataana mujhe sare aam batayega?

Kyu koi tay karega ki main kya karun, meri behen kya kare?

Kyu koi aur ye samjhaaye ki kya hum sochein aur sehen kya karein?

Haath bataana ghar pe main ahsaan nahi samjhta,

Khud ko jeevan saathi main bhagwan nahi samjhta.

Jab ghar sabka hai toh kaam sabka kyu nahi?

Jab aan sabki hai toh maan sabka kyu nahi?

Bohot bade waade nhi kar raha main,

Koi naye iraade nahi kar raha main.

Bas jitni izzat milti hai mujhe,

Sabki utni hi izzat karta hun.

Koi khaas insaan nahi hun main,

Bas ek aam sa ladka hun.

To let others know of the problems males face in the society and the mindset of a modern man, share this poetry with those whom you feel need to know of it.

Tell everyone what they have overlooked all this time, and spread this message to make the suppressed women of the society feel that they are no more considered unequal on the basis of their gender and this is what men today think. The men today do not pay heed to people with a stupid stereotyped mentality and thus have now evolved.
